Bear Valley opened high in the Sierra and quickly became a legend. With massive snowfall, dramatic terrain like Grizzly Bowl, and sweeping views into the Mokelumne Canyon, it earned a reputation as one of Northern California’s most authentic ski mountains.

Bear Valley wasn’t just known for great skiing - it was known for who skied here. Jean-Claude Killy, the most famous skier of all time, regularly joined by Hollywood icons Clint Eastwood, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Conrad, Merv Griffin, and other stars at Bear Valley’s renowned Pro-Celebrity events. This was a mountain with soul, style, and serious talent on the slopes.
Over time, that momentum faded. Ownership changed, the vision blurred, and Bear Valley drifted away from what made it special.

That changed in December 2023. Two passionate, long-time ski resort operators, along with a group of dedicated skier-investors, brought Bear Valley back under skier ownership. The result: lift upgrades, stronger grooming standards, more consistent Grizzly Bowl access, new guest spaces like Maury’s Mustang Bar, and events and parties nearly every weekend.
Most importantly, Bear Valley feels right again with a "Guest-First" attitude, easy parking and shuttle services, family drop-off zones, and helpful staff everywhere you look. Not to mention, 1st Turn, one of the industry’s best first-timer experiences.
While Tahoe grows more crowded, complicated, and corporate, Bear Valley remains refreshingly simple - friendly, approachable, and fun. Whether you’re here for a day or a long weekend at the historic Bear Valley Lodge, it's the place to be.
Come experience skiing and riding the way it’s supposed to be. Bear is Back.
