Competitive Ski / Competitive Freestyle Team ages 6-17 / All Mountain Development, Adventure and Adult Teams
Overview
The competitive freestyle program is geared for freeski and snowboard athletes that have experienced the thrill of competition or are ready to enter their first event. This team will be focused on each athlete’s abilities and goals to perform in competition. All Freestyle athletes will train under a similar curriculum, but will also include a progression plan based on the goals and ability of individual athletes. There are two categories of athletes that will make up the Competitive Freestyle Team; those athletes that are ready to compete and travel and those that are developing skills to compete.
COMPETITIVE FREESTYLE TEAMS
1) Western Region Freestyle Comp Team: ages 8-17 The competitive traveling team is for intermediate to advanced skiing and snowboarding athletes that have a passion to improve their skills and compete in freestyle-type events at Bear Valley and other winter resorts. This new team will give talented and upcoming athletes the opportunity to compete in 4 Freestyle type events as part of the Bear Valley Freestyle Team with the support of an experienced coach. Two events will be Bear Valley USASA sanctioned events and two events will be at neighboring resorts in the Central Sierra or Tahoe (specific events TBA. Must have at least 4 committed athletes for coach to attend events with athletes). Bear Valley has a talented coaching staff made up of athletes that have competed at top levels as Freeski or Snowboard athletes. The freestyle coaching staff will work with athletes to prepare for competitions by perfecting their skills on terrain features such as rails, jumps, boxes, and other innovative features to perform tricks. This team requires a minimum skill level of “intermediate” skiing or snowboarding experience and participants must have prior experience in at least one competition or receive a coach recommendation for team. Athletes outside of recommended age range may qualify based on coach’s recommendation.
2) Freestyle “Devo” Team: ages 6-13 The Freestyle Development Team is for freeskier or snowboarder athletes who are ready to improve their technique in a team environment. Ski and snowboard athletes will focus on improving Freestyle competition skills needed to transition to Bear Valley’s Western Region Freestyle Comp Team. Freestyle skills will include terrain features, jumps and skier/boarder cross techniques. In addition the program emphasizes skill development in all snow conditions and terrain, safety, building confidence and fun. This team requires a minimum skill level of “intermediate” skiing or snowboarding.
Training Schedule: Freestyle Devo Team – A specific schedule for this team will be posted on the website at www.bvsef.org & is available by clicking here. Training sessions run from 9:30-11:30 and 12:30 – 2:30 each training day.
Training begins Dec. 17, 2011 and will take place every other weekend. Christmas Training Camp is December 26-30. All training dates and times are subject to change due to weather and snow conditions.
USASA Registration: As a freestyle participant in sanctioned freestyle events it is mandatory that athletes join USASA. Online registration can be found by clicking here. (Freestyle team members are not required for USASA registration unless they compete in a USASA event)
Equipment and requirements needed for Freestyle Training: Season pass and team pass. These must be purchased separately. Mandatory Equipment: Helmets for all. Twin tip skis for freeskiers and a Park specific board for snowboard athletes. Recommended: Padded shorts and gear.

2011/12 Mini Camps & Nastar Season Pass (Optional Add-ons)
This season Bear Valley is planning a series of events that will give all team participants the opportunity to further enhance their training at a discounted rate. We are working on details for “Mini-camps”, Nastar and spring or summer camps as conditions allow. Camp topics may include slopestyle, skier/boarder cross techniques, side country, snow safety and carving clinics. Discounted Rates will be extended to team members.
