As of today (Wednesday) there are only 12 days of winter operations left at the mountain!
With the ups and downs of the weather, it doesn’t look like we are going to get the great bake needed to pull the lower mountain out of the hat. Most of you probably knew it was a long shot and were wondering what world I was living in to even think it could happen. With only about foot to 18” at Griz bottom, Griz access road nearly impassable and without a deep freeze, the snow pack on the lower 1/3 can barely support any weight. It is with great frustration that we officially announce that the lower mountain will not open this season.
I know this is very disappointing to many of you, but the good news is that we are having some pretty incredible spring skiing left on the Upper Mountain and Village Side. With the bus back on its regular schedule, I even made a couple of runs into the village on Tuesday and had a great time gliding through the mash.
Come join us for some great fun as there is still a lot to do over the next couple of weekends with many time tested traditional events lined up. Check out the web site for more info on the skier/rider/boarder cross, egg hunt, slush cup, pond skimming, reggae and a jib jam.
Once again our last scheduled day of operations will be April 15th.

Jim, I can get a boat. We can sail the BVI. It has a blender on it. Fishing poles, licenses, full BBQ, and scuba\snorkel gear.
It’s time to shut it down up there and put the shorts on. You have made a valiant effort this season, as has your staff. Just knowing that will make the boat drinks taste so fine. -
Jim,
My thanks to you and the entire BV crew for a great season. It’s amazing what you did with so little.
By the way, if you track the traffic through your first aid station – the broken rib guy on last Sunday was my younger son Derek (who appeared on your 2009-10 brochure jumping in Grizzly Bowl). This time he stupidly jumped onto a granite slope with only a foot of powder. He’s sore, but recovering (and hopefully smarter). -
Bruce – to be brutally honest (to which i have been warned about) and in the interest of full disclosure and continuing to provide a superior standard of guest service, the skiing and riding on the village side can be spectacular! But, soon after you enter into civilization and onto the county roads the travel is not very snowboard friendly, especially in those warm spring days. In the midddle of winter and early morning spring days when everything is frozen, you may get lucky. The trick is to ride with poles (in a backpack of course) or someone who will loan you a pole so you can ue the step/pole/glide method down the road and back to the bus stop. Of course for a skier once out of the pit and over the hump, its a glide 90% of the time.
On the web site you can find a trail map of the Village trails and roads, of special note o(f course its not to scale) would be that Village core is less than 200 verticle feet below Bear Lake, i’ll let you estimate the grade and energy factor.

How can we find out more about the village side? Are their dreaded flats at the bottom that snowboarders despise? Anything I should know or is there a recommended route for the first run that provides a vantage point for the rest of that side? Without any information I have been hesitant to check it out.
Thanks

Just want to than your team for a spectacular season.
They have done everything possible to make up for the low snow fall–every department deserves mention and all provided great front line experiences.
The precision with which the place ticks is so welcome for a 30 year veteran.
Thank you.

Jim, it has been a challenging season to say the least, but I have thoroughly enjoyed skiing this year. While my season pass was a borderline investment this year, I didn’t hesitate to buy a new one. I was very impressed with your efforts to keep the lifts turning even when the utility failed. I was there when power failed, and your team moved quickly to keep the wheels turning. I finished out the day happily skied out and celebrating your proficient handling of my ski weekend. Thank you for keeping the wheels turning. I will be on the lifts tomorrow morning. April skiing on fresh snow…love it!
